Mass Science Privacy Policy
Mass Science is a research study and mobile application developed by the RADAR-base Team at Precision Health Informatics Data Lab (PHIDL / PHIDataLab) which is a research group at King’s College London. This privacy policy will explain how our organization uses the personal data we collect from you when you use our application and website.

What data do we collect?
Our group collects the following data:
- Personal identification information (Name, email address, phone number, etc.)
- Location coordinates
- Wellbeing and health surveys
How do we collect your data?
You directly provide our group the data we collect. We collect data and process data when you:
- Register online through the application.
- Voluntarily complete a health or wellbeing survey
- When you provide feedback or contact us through email or the mobile application store pages.
- Through background tracking of location coordinates if you enable collection through the app.
- Use or view our website via your browser’s cookies.
Mass Science can also receive data from third party services where you have explicitly connected your account. For example: Heart rate, sleep, and steps are received from Fitbit if you chose to authorize use to access your Fitbit data through the Mass Science app.
How will we use your data?
Mass Science collects your data so that we can analyse it in order to answer important questions on:
- The effect of the Covid-19 outbreak on mental health
- The symptomology of Covid-19
- The prevalence and spread of Covid-19
If you agree, our group will share an anonymised copy of your data with other research groups at the conclusion of the study.
How do we store your data?
Mass Science securely stores your data on the Google Cloud platform and on encrypted servers at King’s College London. Only pseudo-anonymised and processed data will be available to analysts; actual location coordinates will be stored encrypted and only accessed to process into pseudo-anonymised metrics. We will keep your personal data for 2 years. Once this time period has expired, we will delete your personal data.
What are your data protection rights?
Mass Science would like to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights. Every user is entitled to the following:
The right to access – You have the right to request Mass Science for copies of your personal data.
The right to rectification – You have the right to request that Mass Science correct any information you believe is inaccurate. You also have the right to request Mass Science to complete the information you believe is incomplete.
The right to erasure – You have the right to request that Mass Science erase your personal data, under certain conditions.
The right to restrict processing – You have the right to request that Mass Science restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
The right to object to processing – You have the right to object to Mass Science’s processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
The right to data portability – You have the right to request that Mass Science transfer the data that we have collected to another organization, or directly to you, under certain conditions.
